The day after
Greetings! I hope Halloween was good to all of you! I have to say for me it was a lot of fun.
I admit it. Up until last years work costume party, I hadn't done a thing for Halloween in YEARS! And yes, I was the one that turned off my lights and didn't bother buying treats for the kids. Ugh. Such a scrooge goblin I tell you!
This year was different. Well. Last year too I suppose as I did go to a party with a gang from work and I dressed up as an escaped metal patients all detailed with the cuffs on the wrists, chain around the waist and shackles. It was a lot of fun!
This year I got to dress up twice! Kel's mom has a birthday on Halloween-how cool is that eh? So we all planned a surprise birthday party for her as this was a mile marker. The big 60! One just can't let that pass by unnoticed.
We told her we were doing a costumed scavenger hunt, and it took place this past Saturday. She received her packet of clues and things she needed to do for 'points', and the goal was to get the most points and end up back at the house at a certain time. We had certificates for each place that a cashier would sign off on to prove certain things were done, as well as receipts would need to be attained.
Things like......go to any sex shop and buy a condom. Extra points given if you got a cherry flavoured ribbed condom. EXTRA points given if you sang to the cashier "Oh! Me so horny! Oh! Me so horny!" She's a good sport....she did it!
Another one was to go to any grocery store and pick up one of the coupon flyers. Extra points given if you went to the Deli Counter and ordered one piece of bologna. EXTRA points given if you ate the bologna while singing the Oscar Meyer song "My balogna has a first name...is O S C A R...." Being a great sport....she did this too!!
Needless to say, she was the ONLY person actually doing this scavenger hunt! And her husband of course as he was driving but he was in on it and played it up to perfection. The rest of us took of to a bar/eatery to start decorating and meeting all of the friends and family that had been invited. I think we had about 50 people show up, some in costume and some not.
The place we were at was also a 'stop' on the scavenger hunt. The deal was to go into this bar, order a drink. Extra points would be given if you sat and sang "Happy Birthday to me" over and over again, in hopes that the bartender would give you a drink on the house. She DID THIS TOO......and we were all watching! As the bartender was signing her certificate as proof, we all yelled her name and screamed the surprise and Happy Birthday. She was totally shocked! The tears of surprise and happiness flowed and a fun night was had by all.
I dressed up as Stickman...which I thought was pretty darn creative. Sadly, I had to tell almost every person that asked what I was that I was indeed a stickman. Sigh. Such a bummer! Kel wore her grandfathers old baseball uniform and looked so darn cute and authentic! Pictures were taken yes, but she won't let me post any of those as she doesn't like the way they turned out. Sorry folks!
Soooooo.....Halloween night came and Kel and I planned on going over to her niece and nephews to go trick-or-treating with them. I decided I was going easy on myself and just dress up as an aussie rope wrangler. Pop on a hat. Put on my cowboy boots. Don my authentic Driza Bone Aussie coat. Easy!
Well.
I decided to make it look more authentic and thought that some 5 o'clock shadow would be pretty darn cool. Sooo....I became a male last night. I did the coffee ground beard and painted bushy eyebrows...and well.....everyone laughed and hooted at the realism. Our sister in-law was going nuts as she kept telling me I looked like Tobie Keith. Ok. That works too!
